I had the most amazing weekend celebrating the 1st anniversary :)
We went camping at ecp and we had outdoor cooking n we looked at the stars n the sea
Really romantic night.
Then to Sentosa the next day.

Well, in my opinions, on the scale of 1 to 10, i'd give shipyard a 3-4 as a place for girls (2 being in NS and 1 being in war for real). Of course, I'm talking about positions in the production line where u have to climb in and out of dirty smelly oil rigs/ships/vessels/whatever they call it, talk to hokkien-literate contractors ("Seng ah! toilet door repair oredi anot ah??? dont fuck w me i tell u! my boss v noisy!"), converse with ineffective workers of multi nationalities where the commonly understood words are fuck, screw, fly kite, etc., climbing scaffoldings (shaky ones), going into the manholes, engine rooms, whatever they call it where there's no proper ventilation or lighting and many many more non-feminine activities. It can be quite dangerous at times and I was particularly stressed out by the safety procedures I had to follow when I started work. Btw you really get giddy n faint when you go into parts of the ships thats down below, because of the really thin air, you'll take some time to get used to it.
Of course, there are many departments in a shipyard that u can apply for other than the production side. There is the engineering department where you get to sit in front of the computer most of the time designing hulls, ships, using autocad n only stepping into the production site to take measurements, there is the HR department where the girls really wear office wear and are able to put on make up. Theres the whole management department, safety department, etc. So these places are really like any other working places. Except that you have to start work at 730 each morning and expect to work on weekends.
Also, it depends on the kind of girl that you are. Like, are you the girly type that worry about eyebags n pimples n u just cant bring yourself to step on a puddle of oil even though you're covered in boots, overalls and helmet OR are you the tomboy gungho kind that doesnt mind getting yr hands dirty (and mostly every part of you) and doesnt mind hardwork. Theres one thing i must say though, surprisingly, every one and i mean every one in the production dept of the shipyard has fantastic complexion.
And of course, very important thing, if you're a graduate, expect fat paycheck every month and lots of bonuses too, i think the average basic pay for fresh graduates is about 2700-3000 plus 7 months' bonus. As you climb up the ladder fr foreman, to asst superintendent and all the way up, yr pay is gonna increase by quite a bit each time. So yea, the money is good, but you must be prepared to work hard.
I'd say... you should try the shipyard, just for the experience and as a stepping stone, but maybe dont do it as a lifetime plan. haha. A few years' stint is very beneficial i think, because engineers in shipyards get poached by other higher paying companies very often and i must say that it's a very good learning ground. You learn everything, from the mechanical and electrical aspects, hands on, designs, management, inter-personal skills, humility (seeing those poor workers really...), huge huge sense of responsibilities because sometimes other people's lives are in yr hands, group work because engineers can never work alone, etc.
Yup I think thats about all I can sum up so far... after 5 weeks in the shipyard haha. If you're like me, urban girl who's all about comfort and fun, it can be quite depressing. hahaha. But there are female engineers around and they seem to be getting on fine. So it's really about how much shit you can take and how far you can step out of yr comfort zone. Personally, I will not choose it as a career option in the future. :)

This whole working experience kinda changes me.
I've become mentally stronger, i think.
Like, whatever man, I've worked in a shipyard before!
Side by side with all the workers
under the sun, sweaty, oily, ugly, smelly
cycled till my legs go weak at the end of the day
falling asleep at 10 every night because I'm simply too tired
waking up at 530 in the morning because shuttle bus comes at 630
WORKING ON FREAKING SATURDAYS
and dont even get me started on how very male dominated the place is.
But the good thing abt this is that they take very good care of the females
hahaha.
so that means data entry jobs sometimes...
and slacking at the office.
it's not always the oil rigs or workshops.
Such a HUGEEEEEEE company has an amazing management
it's something to learn from.
but it's still very tiring and i'll not work for companies that make me go to work at 730 in the morning on saturdays
Come monday it's the 5th week hahaha

They're all so huge tt i've difficulty walking at first..
let alone cycling. but i'm getting used to all these.
I hope they'll transfer me to the engineering place...

Other than work, nothing much is happening.
Everything's sorta in place,
went for a ktv session + dinner with perry n his family.
